Overview

As expected, Yamaha India has re-launched the Version 1.0 of YZF-R15 in India as R15-S and it is priced @ Rs. 1,14,741 (yes! It is Rs. 500 expensive than the version 2.0!) . The bike is now on-sale in India and it is available in three new shades - Track White, Adrenalin Red & Spark Green. The is what the Yamaha officials have to say about the all-new R15-S (version 1.0).

’Yamaha R15 is a pure sports vehicle designed especially for racing enthusiasts so that they can experience the power and passion that a sports bike has to offer. However, our research showed that a particular customer segment desired for a single seat version as it is more convenient for the pillion rider. Even so, the split seat version 2.0 will also continue to be in the market along with the new single seat variant. We, at Yamaha keep our customers first and hence this introduction was imperative.’

Design & Style

Yamaha R15 was the first model for the Indian market designed in the true Super sport image and featuring a high-level balance of enjoyable running performance on winding roads. It is the best looking bike in its class. Packed full of state-of-the-art technologies, R15 Version 1.0 (now known as R15-S) boasts performance worthy of a Super sport model and a body design that evokes the image of the YZF-R series and gives visual expression to the quality of its ride. The only major change in the design of R15-S is that it gets a new exhaust like version 2.0. Except the exhaust and new colors on offer, the R15 S is quite similar to the original single seat R15 Version 1.0.

Engine & Gearbox

Yamaha R15-S Version 1.0 is powered by 149.8cc Fuel Injected liquid cooled engine that produces a respectable power of 16.8 Bhp @ 8500 rpm with maximum torque of 15 Nm at 7500 rpm, which makes it like the most powerful fully-faired 150cc bike in India. The engine is mated to a 6-speed smooth transmission.

Performance & Mileage

The performance of R15-S is expected to be pretty similar to the original version 1.0 with top speed hovering around 130 kmph and it should take 3.20 seconds to reach 60 kmph and cross the 0-100 kmph mark in 9.4 seconds. The approx. mileage in city should be somewhere around 30 kmpl and on highways you can expect it to be around 40 kmpl.

Dimensions & Weight

The overall length of Yamaha R15-S is 1995mm, overall width is 670mm, height of the bike is 1070mm and its wheelbase is 1290mm. The dry weight of the bike is 120kg & kerb weight stands at 131 kg. This makes R15-S a whole 5kg lighter in comparison to the R15 Version 2.0.

Suspension, Brakes & Tyres

Yamaha R15-S boasts telescopic suspension set-up up front and the rear suspension is linked type mono-cross. The bike comes equipped with front & rear brakes. It comes equipped with 80/90 - 17" tyre at front and 130/70 R17" tyre at rear.

Shades & Ex-showroom Price

Yamaha R15-S is available in 3 new shades - Track White, Adrenalin Red & Spark Green. Quite surprisingly, the new single seat version of R15 is available with a price tag of Rs. 1, 14,741 (ex-showroom Delhi).
