HTC One E9+ is a good big-screen dual SIM smartphone

These days’ people just seem to want big phones with even bigger screens. I have often pondered on this larger-screen phone trend, more so because for the past few years I have been hooked on to the strictly work-oriented BlackBerry phones with QWERTY keypads.

Compared to the latter, aren't big phones difficult to handle and carry around? More so, isn't it a bit awkward to make calls from bigger-than-normal handsets with people literally staring at you?

Looking around, the market reality is that that the world has embraced large screen phones - first popularised by Samsung with its successful Note series, and later by many other handset vendors including Apple with its iPhone 6 plus smartphone - simply because more expansive displays make it easier to see and do more on the screen. This is especially important for gaming and watching video. Larger phone designs also make room for larger batteries, so that our devices do not gasp for life after 8-9 hours of usage.

It's no secret that big-screen mobile phones are a big hit in the Indian market too. Keen to tap this opportunity, the Taiwanese device maker HTC has debuted its HTC One E9+ dual SIM phone with a 5.5 inch large display. It is a sleek, sophisticated and feature packed lightweight (149g) smartphone with a large display, 20 mega-pixel camera and a MediaTek Helio X10 processor. It carries a price tag of R36, 790 and comes in three colour options - Meteor Grey, Gold Sopia and Rose Gold. Here are my impressions about the new HTC device.

Out of the box, the HTC One E9+ dual SIM is a combination of style and function. It comes with a stunning 13.97 cm (5.5-inch) 2K display that will immerse the individual in his favourite mobile game or catch the latest blockbuster movie all in WQHD or Quad HD, which has 77% more pixels than Full HD, which goes beyond high definition bringing more vibrant colours to life, an eye popping experience in the palm of your hands, more details, so you see more and do more.

Once switched on, I was contented that this new HTC device is blessed with a stunning display that is great for watching movies, playing games and reading. I am sure it will be very popular amongst college students and commuters for these very reasons.

With an amazing display, you do need an amazing sound! On this front, the HTC One E9+ boasts of the HTC Boom Sound, a dual front facing speaker; two dynamic speakers blast out the tunes with rich sounds enveloping you in the moment naturally. In partnership with Dolby Audio Surround, it has been HTC's endeavour to bring high fidelity in smartphones, so that whenever people are using the speakers or headphones, they get a complete entertainment experience.

Since big-screen mobile phones are more likely to be used for gaming purposes and watching videos than smaller smartphones, they tend to run on more powerful hardware. No wonder, the HTC One E9+ is powered by the latest MediaTek's flagship processor, the MediaTek Helio X10 processor and a 8 x 2 GHz octa-core chipset. The phone comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB on-board storage and an expandable memory of upto 2 TB microSDXC card slot. On the camera front, you'll be amazed by its 20-mega-pixel rear camera that takes magnificent photos with spectacular details.

The front facing camera comes with a wide angled HTC UltraPixel camera capturing all your special moments in brilliance, bringing 3 times more light than a regular camera for brighter pictures especially in low light. It comes with an interesting feature, the HTC Eye Experience, that that shoots selfies automatically with Auto Selfie and Voice Selfie and even make yourself look better with Live Makeup before you take the shot. The phone is endowed with an enlarged battery so forget about worrying whether your mobile will last the day; in my case, the One E9+ went around for two days between charges, and at times it lasted even longer.

In actual usage, the HTC One E9+ ran extremely well and was very fast opening apps and during surfing the websites. Snapping away with its camera produced some very good photos with good resolution and clarity. In short, if you are in the market for a big-screen phone then this HTC device can be a good choice.
