The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G and Sony Xperia
E4g Dual are two noted affordable 4G smartphones, and are available for about
Rs 11,000. We have thus compared the phones here on the basis of their
specification sheet.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is like any other
Samsung phone at this price. Since they all look pretty similar, we can skip to
the material. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G has a metallic finish surround
and a hard plastic back panel. The bezels are average sized, and the device
measures 144.8 x 72.1 x 8.6 mm and weighs 156 grams.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual is an ordinary, but
functional looking phone from Sony. The back panel is made out of dull
soft-touch plastic, and the panel extends all the way to the sides and front of
the phone. The Sony Xperia E4g Dual has average sized bezels, but a more
compact frame. It measures 133 x 71 x 10.8 mm, and weighs 135 grams.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual is armed with a 4.7 inch
IPS display with 540 x 960 pixels resolution and it is said to be scratch
resistant also. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G comes with a 5 inch TFT
display that has 540 x 960 pixels resolution too but it doesn't have any
protective layer.
With IPS technology, the display of the Sony
smartphone should offer wider viewing angle and with added scratch resistant
cover, the Sony Xperia E4g Dual has definitely an edge over the Samsung
handset.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is armed with a
quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor which runs with 1 GB of RAM. The
internal memory stands at 8 GB to which you can add another 64 GB via a microSD
card.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual runs on the combination of
1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6732 processor and 1 GB of RAM. The internal
storage stands at 8 GB to which you can add another 32 GB using its expandable
storage slot.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual has a faster processor but
if storage is a concern, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime LTE is the one to go
for.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual runs on Android KitKat and
has Sony's Xperia UI on top of it. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Grand
Prime LTE runs on the latest Android Lollipop operating system and has a custom
interface too - Samsung's Touch Wiz UI.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G runs a 2600 mAh
battery which can provide up to 14 hours of talk time or 300 hours of standby
(network not known). The Sony Xperia E4g Dual, with a 2300 mAh battery, claims
to offer up to 12.3 hours of talk time or 696 hours of standby time.
This
round is very close, but the Samsung edges it.
Camera
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual is armed with a 5
megapixel primary camera with Auto Scene Recognition, High Dynamic Range for
Pictures, Image Stabiliser, Geo-tagging, Image Capture, and Image Playback
features. It can record full HD videos at 30fps. For selfies, the Sony Xperia
E4g Dual has a 2 megapixel shooter.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G has an 8
megapixel primary shooter with auto-focus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile
detection, and panorama features. The rear camera can record videos in high
definition. In the front of the phone there is a 5 megapixel shooter with 85
degree wide angle lens.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is a dual-SIM
smartphone with 4G, GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS), Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi (b/g/n), WiFi
Direct, WiFi Hotspot, and NFC too.
The Sony Xperia E4g Dual too has two SIM slots and
offers 4G, GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS), Bluetooth 4.1.1, WiFi, WiFi Direct, and WiFi
Hotspot.
Unless NFC is something you use (hardly useful in
India as we can't use it for Google Pay etc.), this round is a draw from our
side.
The Sony might have a better screen and processor
but it loses lots of points for having a low end camera (in terms of
resolution) and due to the old OS two very important aspects. Thus the
Samsung smartphone seems a better choice.
