Lenovo A6000 review: A smart, stylish and affordable smartphone

Mobile phone makers seem to have devised a new strategy in order to make their products popular in the market place: come up with a phone with decent hardware-software mix, price it attractively and do flash sales on an e-commerce site. And once online sales are a hit, advertise it aggressively in order to attract prospective buyers on both the online as well as offline platforms. Smartphones from Motorola, Asus, Xiaomi, among others have all taken this route to achieve market success and the $39-billion, Chinese gadgets maker Lenovo is the latest to join the trend with a view to create buzz around its new offerings. It has launched its latest smartphone, called Lenovo A6000, which it claims to be India’s most affordable 4G smartphone and is available on Flipkart. A total of 80,000 units of the Lenovo A6000 have been sold till now in four flash sales.

Strictly from a not-so-aware user point of view, Lenovo is better known for its notebooks and laptops than for its smartphones; its smartphone division is still young and growing, but that isn’t stopping the company from introducing a wide range of phones across various price segments. Flipkart had partnered with Lenovo for online sales of its two phones? Vibe Z2 Pro and Vibe X2? And the response was pretty good. Take my word, I have reviewed Lenovo’s smartphones in the past and its devices are reliable, powerful and have a long battery life. With 2015 expected to be the year of 4G LTE, let us check out the company’s claims as far as its new offering is concerned.

On first impressions, the A6000 is an ideal choice for the youth who want a trendy phone loaded with new features and yet not being heavy on the pocket. It retails for Rs 6,999 and the device promises the perfect balance of speed, performance and ergonomics. The phone is packed with audio features that will appeal to consumers? Love for video, music and entertainment. It does not have sharp edges at the corner to trouble your grip. Instead, it comes with rounded curves that easily sit in your hand. Having a thin and ultra-light body, this smartphone is convenient to carry in your jeans pocket or handbag for easy reach. It has a strong built that can survive everyday bumps easily.

The phone’s innards are pretty much up-to-date. At the heart of the A6000 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 64-bit, quad-core CPU each running at 1.2 GHz. The 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor ensures that the phone offers a powerful combination of features, multimedia performance and battery efficiency. The screen is a 12.7 cm HD (1280 x 720) IPS panel with great viewing angles. Indeed, in real usage the phone’s HD display offers ultra-wide viewing angles for better enjoyment while watching music videos, gaming or web browsing.

The device is also thin and light at 8.2 mm and 128gms respectively thereby making it easy to fit into your pocket. The light weight and thin design perfectly masks a 2300mAh battery, which will let consumers easily go a day without running out of charge. The phone supports both LTE bands in India FDD 1800 MHz (Band 3) & TDD 2300MHz (Band 40). Rounding out the list of features on the A6000, is Dolby digital certified dual speakers making it a perfect multimedia companion on the go. The A6000 has Android KitKat 4.4.4 as its operating system.

On the camera front, the A6000 packs in a 8 megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash, and a 2 megapixel fixed-focus front camera. It has 8 GB of internal storage which, according to me, is on the lower side, though there is an expandable MicroSD slot upto 32 GB. In terms of RAM, you are looking at 1 GB RAM.

Performance-wise, the A6000 is easy to use with its highly responsive software. It has a fast quad-core processor and a decent 5-inch screen, not to mention a decent camera and long battery life.
