The smartphone market in
India is really getting interesting. In fact, one of the most interesting
smartphones I have seen in recent times is just about to launch. I am talking
about the Qiku Q Terra, set to launch in India on November 27.
The phone, which is the
result of a joint venture between Coolpad and security firm 360, is powered by
a very unique, but trendy and usable UI from the latter. This is one of the
fastest user interface and certainly one of the less cluttered ones that I have
used. It also has some great features like the app freeze to prevent
unnecessary drain of the battery.
But the best feature for me
is the 13MP + 13MP dual camera setup in the rear. Unlike the other dual cameras,
we have seen, one of the cameras here is black and white. This means the
picture has a kind of contrast unseen in other phones. I would rate this as one
of the best Android cameras, right up there with the OnePlus 2 and the Samsung
Galaxy S6 edge+.
It also has one of the
fastest fingerprint scanners, and the pad is placed conveniently under the rear
camera where you usually rest one of your fingers. The full metal body also
adds a lot of oomph to the phone. Then there is the 2K screen, which when
coupled with the UI, makes this phone a delight to use.
While I have used the phone
for a couple of weeks, it is tough to write a full review as the build I had is
a Chinese one with a lot of things I could not understand. However, what I have
seen has convinced me that with the right pricing this phone will be much
sought after in India. From what I know, there could be multiple version of the
phone at different price points.
Personally, I see OnePlus
getting some serious competition in the flagship killer space when this phone
is finally launched in India.
