4 slimmest phones you can buy

There has been a tremendous change in smartphone design over the past couple of years. Phones have become slimmer, lighter, and can accommodate bigger displays.

Initially, it was more about playing to the gallery by trying to come up with the slimmest phone, but these inevitably came with issues, like a bump around the camera or that they would heat up. Today, they are much more durable, better designed and as powerful as regular smartphones. We bring you five of the latest slim phones available in India right now.

1. Samsung Galaxy A8 (Rs 32,500) 

Samsung’s big yet slim Galaxy A8 is just 5.9mm thick and weighs 151g. The Gorilla Glass 4 on the front, the solid anodized plastic finish on the back panel and the chamfered metal frame on the side panel make it rugged and durable. Despite the big 5.7-inch Full HD AMOLED display, the phone is handy to use. It is powered by an octa-core processor, backed by 2 GB RAM, has a 16-megapixel camera and a fingerprint scanner. 

2. Gionee Elife S7 (Rs 20,490)

The S7 is just 5.5mm thick and weighs around 127g. The glass finish on the back adds to the looks while the metal frame lends it solidity. Unlike other phones where the frame is flat or rounded, this one has a U-shaped groove, like an empty space between the frame, so it feels more cosy when you’re holding it. It runs Android 5.0 and uses a heavily customized Amigo interface. An octa-core processor, 5.2-inch Full HD display, 13-MP camera and 4G connectivity make it a solid mid-range phone. 

3. Micromax Canvas Silver 5 (Rs 17,999)

The phone’s claim to fame is that it’s 5.1mm thin even at its thickest point, which is the area around the camera at the back. It weighs a mere 97g, making it one of the lightest 5-inch screen phones.

It runs Android 5.0 without too many customizations. It is not as powerful as the rest of the devices on the list and uses a relatively low-power quad-core processor, but still offers adequate performance. Other specifications include an 8-MP camera and a 1,280x720p display.

4. Vivo X5 Pro (Rs 27,980)

Vivo’s smartphones are never short on personality. This phone comes with a 5.2-inch display, is 6.4mm thick and weighs 151g. The rounded edges and aluminium frame look similar to the iPhone 6.

It is a bit expensive considering that it runs the same Snapdragon 615 processor that has been used in the Xiaomi Mi 4i. It runs Android 5.0 with Funtouch, the ordinary-looking interface it uses in its phones. It supports 4G and has a 13-MP rear camera which comes with a sapphire lens, like the iPhone 6.
